Regional Center for Arts & Academic Studies

Purpose
The purpose of Sandusky City Schools Regional Center for Advanced Academic Studies is to provide a world class education to identified gifted students through innovative curriculum and instructional models designed to meet the individual needs of each student.

Goals
Grow students’ academic potential to their fullest - Foster collaborative relationships between students, families, staff, and our community - Explore services and options to further students’ reach in a global era.

Services
Students in grades 3-6 will receive integrated instruction in the four core areas: Math, Science/Technology, English and Humanities. Students will receive on-grade level instruction for non-identified areas. Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, gifted services will now be offered in the areas of Visual and Performing Arts (Visual Art, Music, Dance, and/or Drama) and Creative Thinking Ability. Affective development with guidance staff will also be afforded.

Entrance Criteria
Children must be qualified as gifted, according to Ohio’s State Standards,in one or more of the following areas to be considered for enrollment: Superior Cognitive Ability, Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Creative Thinking Ability, and/or any of the Visual and Performing Arts (Visual Art, Music, Dance, or Drama). Students scoring in the emerging ranges may also be invited to enroll based on available seats in a particular grade level. Per Ohio law incoming test scores must be less than 24 months old at time of application. Opportunities for possible identification will be provided throughout the year for services the following year.

RCAAS Application & Referral Form

The Regional Center for Advanced Academic Studies is a full day school program offered as part of the Sandusky City Schools for students entering grades 3, 4, 5, of 6 who are identified as gifted or emerging in the core academic areas, cognitive and creative thinking abilities, and any of the visual and performing arts. If you would like your child to be considered for enrollment, please complete this form. Teachers and even students themselves may also complete this form as a referral for gifted assessment.

The Michelle Ziemke Student Art Gallery


The Michelle Ziemke Student Art Gallery was founded in the Fall of 2020 with the help of the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation Grant and the Sandusky Lowe's Store.  The gallery's Mission is to provide a professional place for students throughout the district to showcase their artwork.  Every other month a theme is selected and publicized on the district's website; students of any grade can create artwork to submit for consideration to [email protected] or call 419-984-1213 for more information.'
